history:
The Wells Larue House, a state landmark, was built circa 1850
in downtown Austin very close to the current State Capital Building.
It served as a townhouse for the family of Waymon Wells who fought
for the Republic of Texas. The Historic townhouse has remained in
the same family until recently. For Wells’ service in the fight
for Texas independence, President Stephen F. Austin rewarded him with
homestead acreage known as Wells Branch.
Solution: The
house had been relocated twice in recent history and poorly modified.
Rehabilitation of the structure was needed to accommodate modern living
with the sensitive insertion of kitchen, bath rooms, and reorganization
of spaces. Interiors were developed to compliment the original structure.
