An ebony pencil has a very soft lead and simple pressure creates the difference between fine and fat lines. The pencil is a natural extension of the hand, I favor it when I’m drawing for my own pleasure.

I find more time to sketch when I’m on Holiday so I always carry my sketch book and pencil. I have a deeper experience of the place when I sit and draw. Some of the sketches shown took 5 minutes; others took longer. I prefer the fast, spontaneous ones.

For preliminary conceptual presentations in the office, I prefer to use pen and marker, such as the house shown in the fourth sketch.
